Biography

Mr Shoaib Iqbal is substantive Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at Forth Valley Royal Hospital, NHS Trust.

He prides himself in his NHS career spanning two decades, completing his Core Surgical Training in the Mersey region, going on to Higher Surgical Training in Trauma Orthopaedics in hospitals across northeast England which lead to his Certificate of Completion of Training award in Trauma and Orthopaedics. Thereafter, he undertook dual subspecialty fellowships in both knee surgery and lower limb arthroplasty at centres of excellence in Leeds and Glasgow. The Leeds Knee Fellowship is a highly regarded programme by BASK where Mr Iqbal gained an understanding of a variety of knee conditions and their management. The Golden Jubilee University National Hospital Glasgow, where he completed the Lower Limb Arthroplasty Fellowship is the highest volume arthroplasty unit in the UK, where computer assisted and robotic surgery is also performed.

Mr Iqbal performs hip and knee arthroplasty, total hip and knee replacements, partial knee replacements and knee scopes with precision and skill, delivering excellent functional outcomes for his patients. Within his department, he is the most prolific partial knee replacement surgeon, having performed over a hundred to date.

Mr Iqbal offers accurate assessment of each individual patient, and follows the ethos of shared care decisions, where the patient feels heard, understood and fully supported through the whole experience. This is evident from the numerous cards of appreciation he has received from patients over the years, a collection that makes him feel honoured and humbled.

To keep clinical skills sharp, and stay abreast of current knowledge and technical advancements in the field, Mr Iqbal participates regularly in national and international conferences and meetings, as well as hands on simulation courses.

When he is not in the operating room, you would probably find him cooking a family meal or hosting a barbecue for friends. He also loves to go cycling around the countryside whenever the weather permits.

Recently had a hip replacement at Elanic. From the original consultation to the surgery and aftercare, I can't fault anything. All of the staff were so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. They put me at ease before the op and looked after me following it. I've had one follow up phone call and a face to face appointment so far, with a further two face to face appointments scheduled. I have contact details and anout of hours emergency number should I need it. They are a great team. Highly professional. I would definitely recommend.

I underwent four weeks ago full knee-replacement surgery at the Elanic Hospital. From my very first consultation with the surgeon, Mr. Andrew MacDonald, to my discharge consultation yesterday, I was very impressed by the professionalism of the entire team, from the surgeon, anaesthetist, nurses, physiotherapists, and all other members of staff. Not only were they professional in their attitudes, but they were always willing to help and to explain things as we went along. Whilst nobody wants to undergo hospital treatment, I found the whole experience as pleasant as could be and this was down to the high standards of the organisation and staff. I would certainly recommend Elanic to anyone considering surgery.

I had a total hip replacement on the 30th April under spinal anaesthesia, was apprehensive as a retired theatre nurse!. All went well and need not have worried. Room etc modern and very clean. The down side was the food the next day, I could have brought sandwiches if I had known!. My post-op recovery has been good, clips removed and a nice clean scar. So would go there again, hopefully I will not need too. Attended my 7 week check yesterday, today was able to appreciate how marvellous the experience has been for me, into my car and off to Rozelle to walk my dog without pain killers and would like to convey my grateful thanks to Mr McDonald and the surgical team for my smooth event free recovery, I am able to resume my life again 'Thank You to everyone' Sandra Wilkie

Felt very welcome on arrival. Seen promptly and was delighted with my surgeon Mr Andrew MacDonald. He was very reassuring and said I was an excellent candidate for surgery which dispelled any fears I had. He was very thorough and passed me on to Johnross who was able to accommodate my request for a date in August. Absolutely delighted with the service

I recently had knee surgery at Elanic in Glasgow and the whole experience has been extremely positive, I couldn’t recommend them enough. Johnross in the booking team was great at scheduling appointments both quickly and at a convenient time and kept me updated at all points. On the day of surgery Kayleigh and the rest of the team in the hospital couldn’t have been more helpful and reassuring. The facilities were excellent and I was in theatre quickly with no waiting around. I felt really well looked after as I recovered and was discharged the same evening after seeing physio. Mr Nunn carried out my surgery - from the first consultation I felt he really listened to what my goals were and talked me through all my options clearly so I felt I was able to make an informed decision. Post surgery he explained everything that had been carried out and included photos which I found really helpful. I am so glad I made the decision to have my surgery at Elanic and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to someone else. Their pricing was really competitive and the hospital was really easy to get to both by train and car due to the location. I’m still early days in my recovery but things are all going in the right direction and I’m really grateful to the whole team for their exceptional level of care from first point of contact.
